Agatha Always Already premiered with a bang on Disney+, featuring one of the first nude scenes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“It was Kathryn’s idea,” said the show’s executive producer and creator Jac Schaeffer revealed in an interview with TV Line published on Wednesday, September 18. Not only was the nudity her idea, but Kathryn Hahnwho plays the lead role of the title witch, performed the scene herself instead of hiring a double.

In the show’s first episode, which premiered Wednesday, Agatha wakes up naked in her home after breaking the spell she was put under by Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) in the WandaVision series finale. She then angrily walks out of her house — without clothes — to question her neighbors about how long she’s been stuck in the town of Westview.

While Agatha’s hair covers her chest throughout the scene, her backside is fully visible as she walks back to her house after getting answers about her situation from Herb (David Payton).

Kathryn Hahn’s delightful villain made WandaVision sing “It was Agatha all along,” and they’re about to have even more magic with the Agatha Harkness spinoff TV show. The Disney+ series, titled Agatha All Along after House of Harkness, Coven of Chaos and several other title changes (more on those below), will feature even more magical women. Patti Lupone (…)

“The idea in the script was that she would come out of the spell naked, because it’s very witchy and she’s stripped off all of her, sort of, performative selves and we’re getting to the real Agatha,” Schaeffer, 45, said of the scene, which began with Agatha going through all of her TV alter egos from WandaVision before she woke up from her trance.

She continued: “But in the action sequences, she realizes where she is, and then she grabs a robe and goes outside. And Kathryn came up to me and was like, ‘I mean, would Agatha stop and get a robe?’ And I was like, ‘I don’t know, would she?’ And she was like, ‘I just have a feeling she would go out there naked.’ And Kathryn was totally into it, so I took it to[Marvel Studios president] Kevin (Feige).”

Despite some hesitation, Feige, 51, ultimately gave the creative choice the OK. “I love it because it’s so firmly rooted in the character. It’s not exploitative, it’s not sexual,” Schaeffer added. “It’s about this witch and what her priorities are. And right now, her priorities (are) that she needs answers, and she doesn’t care if she’s naked or not. So yeah, it’s a point of pride for us.”

In addition to waking up from Wanda’s spell naked, Agatha emerged from her 3-year trance powerless. The series follows Agatha as she forms a coven to walk the Witches Road, a realm that can grant witches what they desire most if they reach the end of the dangerous path. The show also stars Joe Locke, Aubrey Plein, Patti LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn And Debra Jo Rupp.

Earlier this month, Hahn admitted she initially turned down the offer Agatha Always Already when it was offered to her during the filming of 2022 Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery“I got a call from (executive producer) Louis D’Espositojust saying, like, ‘How would you like to have your own Marvel TV show?’ And I said, ‘I wouldn’t do that. No, but thank you so much for your time.’ And then I went back to playing chess,” she said on the Sept. 12 episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
