Jets’ Aaron Rodgers and Robert Saleh explain awkward interaction after TD against Patriots

This story has been updated to add new information.

Aaron Rodgers and Robert Saleh were both excited after the New York Jets built a 14-0 lead over the New England Patriots in the second quarter of their “Thursday Night Football” game.

However, it seemed that Rodgers felt that his head coach was a little at pumped up after Breece Hall’s touchdown run.

Rodgers was happy to briefly shake Saleh’s hand. But his head coach then went in for a hug and Rodgers appeared to push his coach away (as seen in video captured by the Amazon Prime broadcast).

Rodgers followed his arm-bar with an icy glare at Saleh. That was the icing on the cake for the most cringeworthy moment of TNF’s first half.

Saleh commented on the exchange when asked about it during his post-match press conference.

“Some of the things we talked about is just giving the defense a two-score lead,” Saleh said. “And it was a two-score lead.

“I think he just wanted to see something in the defense,” Saleh added with a laugh. “He just reminded me it was a two-score lead.”

Rodgers confirmed that the two-goal lead was the subject of the exchange. He also said that Saleh’s hug surprised him.

“He’s not much of a hugger,” Rodgers told reporters. “I didn’t know he wanted a hug.”

AARON RODGERS: QB isn’t a lifesaver yet, but he could be exactly what the Jets need

It appears that the interaction between Saleh and Rodgers is much ado about nothing.

Saleh seemed pleased that the moment had garnered so much attention. Or maybe he was just happy that his quarterback completed 27 of 35 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns in what was by far his best performance with the Jets.

New York enters the mini-bye with a 2-1 record after a 24-3 crushing loss to the Patriots. Saleh and Rodgers should be happy about that, as Rodgers’ first season in New York ended in disaster.
