September 20 Last days of summer end warm; rainy pattern and cooler as fall begins Sunday

Friday September 20, 2024

Morning report

These last few days of summer will be warm and a little humid. The storm that is currently eluding us will remain at sea and send moisture back to the coast. This will increase the high tide at high tide and the humidity with the warm afternoons.

The weekend starts off nicely, so enjoy the warm Saturday. But towards the evening there may be showers.

Fall starts Sunday morning at 8:43 and it will feel like it. Rain is expected late Saturday night into Sunday and that could give us a wet Sunday. This will give us a cooler pattern and then more rain later next week.

Coastal Flood Warning

The persistent easterly wind will continue to cause some flooding during high tide over the weekend, with a possible peak on Saturday and Sunday.

Coastal Flood Warning for September 20

Flood in Annapolis:

  • Friday: 07:11 am; 07:59 pm
  • Saturday: 07:57 AM; 08:53 PM
  • Sunday: 08:57 am; 09:50 pm

Morning Surface Weather

That storm remains largely stationary far offshore. Circulation around it and a drift back to the west are expected to help raise water levels this weekend.

There is a breeze blowing FROM THE EAST, which makes it feel humid with the sun and warm temperatures.

LOOKING AHEAD

GFS Model Prediction Animation

Monday to Thursday

The weather picture is becoming increasingly rainy with both a low pressure area on the upper air coming from the Midwest and ‘something tropical’ possibly developing in the Gulf of Mexico.

Showers will gradually move east later on Tuesday. More steady rain (currently seen) may arrive on Thursday.

Weather forecast rainstorm September 20

Thursday

It is too early to tell how strong the storm in the Gulf will be, let alone whether it will be named. It will most likely push tropical moisture northward along the front, bringing rain to our region.

7 day forecast

Hot and humid for two more days. Rain until Sunday morning, then cooler. A wet weather pattern is more likely next week.

REPEATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA

I know there are some spelling and grammatical errors and occasional other mistakes. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches that I miss. I’ve made a few public statements over the years, but if you’re new here you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and discovered it during my sophomore year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to earn the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington area.

One of my professors told me that I had gotten this far without knowing it and that I shouldn’t let it be a crutch. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely right! I miss my own mistakes in my own proofreading. The automatic spell checker on my computer sometimes does an injustice to making it worse. I can also make mistakes in predicting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All the maps and information are accurate. The “wordy” stuff can get tricky.

There is no editor to check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to correct typos when she is available. That may be AFTER you have read this. I accept this and perhaps prove that what you are reading is truly mine… It is part of my charm. #FITF
