After Carmen: Ohio State’s Running Game Shines, Defense and Special Teams a Mixed Bag in 49-14 Win Over Marshall

Four touchdowns of 40+ yards and nine plays of 15 yards or more showed Ohio State’s explosiveness against Marshall.

It was all set up by Ohio State’s running game, with the Buckeyes outgaining the Thundering Herd for 280 yards on the ground at a rate of nine yards per carry. The superstar running back duo of Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson combined for 249 yards and four touchdowns on just 20 carries.

Elsewhere, the defense and special teams were a mixed bag. The impact of Tyleik Williams’ absence was felt on the defensive line, as the Buckeyes weren’t as disruptive as they had been in the defensive trenches. The Buckeyes also struggled a bit with pass coverage over the middle and the quarterback run, but OSU ultimately held the Herd to 14 points and 264 yards, with 203 yards and all 14 points coming in the first half.

Jayden Fielding had an uncharacteristically poor performance on kickoffs for the Buckeyes, shooting out of bounds three times before being replaced by walk-on Austin Snyder. Brandon Inniss saw a botched punt erased by an illegal formation penalty, but responded with a nice 21-yard return that might have been much more rewarding had he not slipped.

Eleven warriors Andy Anders and Dan Hope discuss all this and more in After Carmen, our post-game show from Ohio Stadium looking back at Ohio State’s 49-14 win over Marshall.
