Erik Menendez speaks out against Ryan Murphy‘s series about him and his brother Lyle Menendezwho are serving life sentences for the murder of their parents in 1989.

Erik shared his thoughts about Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez in a message his wife Tammi Menendez shared on X, formerly Twitter, September 19, the day the series premiered on Netflix.

“I believed that we had moved beyond the lies and the ruinous characterizations of Lyle, and had created a caricature of Lyle that was rooted in the horrible and blatant lies that were rampant on the show,” Erik said. “I can only believe that they did that on purpose. It is with a heavy heart that I say that I believe that Ryan Murphy could not be so naive and inaccurate about the facts of our lives to do this without malicious intent.”

E! News has reached out to Murphy and Netflix for comment on the 53-year-old’s comments, but has not yet heard back.
