When is the first day of autumn?

The first day of fall, also called the autumnal equinox, is Sunday, September 22 at 8:44 a.m. (Eastern Time).

Although the equinox is known as the astronomical beginning of the season, there is another method used to measure the change in seasons. The meteorological starting points of seasons are based on the annual temperature cycle and the 12-month calendar.

By this definition, each season begins on the first of a given month and lasts for three months. This means that meteorological summer ended on August 31 and autumn began on September 1, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac.

What is the autumnal equinox?

The Almanac explains that during the autumnal equinoxday and night are about equal in length, each lasting about 12 hours.

When will it get cooler in North Carolina?

The Old Farmer’s Almanac has been predicting the weather since its founding in 1792. The Almanac’s long-range weather forecasts provide 12-month forecasts for the entire country.

The Almanac is predicting below-average temperatures for western North Carolina and the entire state. As for the specifics of the forecast, Accuweather’s month-long forecast for September in the Asheville area showed high temperatures starting in the mid-80s and dropping to the low 70s by the end of the month.

Temperatures in October are gradually cooler, with highs ranging from around 21 degrees Celsius at the beginning of the month to around 17 degrees Celsius at the end of the month.
