Dolphins’ Skylar Thompson’s fiancee encourages him ahead of Seattle start

Skylar Thompson’s biggest supporter was looking forward to his first start of the season in Seattle.

Ahead of Sunday’s kickoff between the Dolphins and Seahawks, Bre Newcomer, who is engaged to Miami’s new QB1, posted an Instagram photo from Lumen Field, where the former seventh-round pick will be the quarterback as starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is currently sidelined after suffering a scary concussion in Week 2.

Newcomer also shared a photo of Thompson, 27, warming up on her Instagram Stories.

The couple announced their engagement in March.

Thompson was drafted by the Dolphins with the 247th pick in 2022 and started two games that year, plus a playoff game.

On September 12, he replaced the injured Tagovailoa when the former first-round pick suffered his fourth documented concussion in a 31–10 loss to the Bills.

Tagovailoa, 26, was placed on the injured list this week and has “no plans” to retire.

The former Alabama star will be sidelined on Sunday.

In the lead-up to the match, Thompson spoke about what the opportunity to play away from home means to him.

“Just hearing guys talk and guys that have been there, it’s a special place to play and the 12th man is real. I’m super excited about that. To me, that’s what you want. That’s why football is such a great sport, and it’s fun to be able to go on the road, have an away game with the guys and go out there and compete with them in that environment. We’re really excited for that opportunity,” he said, according to the Dolphins’ website.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel also elaborated on the Dolphins’ confidence in Thompson.

“When I tell you the confidence the team has in Skylar (Thompson) is genuine and earned, and it’s based on thousands of hours that most people don’t see as a backup quarterback, I would say they’re very motivated to do their job and that’s the greatest compliment you can get,” said McDaniel, who is in his third season as head coach.

The Seahawks led the Dolphins 17-3 in the second quarter.
