The New York Jets have been off since their 24-3 win over the New England Patriots, giving players and coaches plenty of time to watch football this weekend.

On Monday night, they watched the Buffalo Bills defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars 47-10 to improve their season record to 3-0 and retain their lead in the AFC East.

It also underscored the fact that if the Jets want to win the division, and thus earn a home playoff game if they’re lucky enough to reach the playoffs, that path must go through Buffalo.

Buffalo had an incredible game against Jacksonville. Quarterback Josh Allen led the Bills to a touchdown on each of their five possessions in the first half. He finished the game with 263 passing yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. Mitchell Trubisky took over for him in the fourth quarter.

But the biggest moment came on defense. Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin had his first career interception.

Hamlin nearly died during a Monday night game in Cincinnati two years ago. He was named the starter to begin the season, and when Buffalo fans realized that the local favorite had intercepted Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence, all hell broke loose.

Just three games into the season, the AFC East race is starting to unravel a bit. With Buffalo undefeated and New York a game behind, Miami and New England are tied at 1-2 after three games.

Interestingly, Buffalo and New York both scored at least 60 points in their first three games, while Miami and New England scored fewer than 40 points.

Both the Bills and Jets also have division wins. Buffalo dominated Miami 31-10 last week, while New York already has a win over New England under its belt.

The two teams will be keeping a close eye on each other over the next two weeks, with Buffalo heading to Baltimore this week for a Sunday night game, followed by a road trip to Houston on October 6.

The Jets host Denver on Sunday and then travel to London to take on the Minnesota Vikings on October 6.

The Bills and New York will then meet for the first time on Monday evening, October 14, at MetLife Stadium.

It’s possible that the Bills could be undefeated and still one game behind the Jets when they meet for the first time this season. That would make it the biggest game in the division so far, if it plays out that way.
