See who went home on Double Elimination Night

Here’s what we know so far (at least according to her partner Ezra Sosa): Anna Delvey couldn’t be found after the first night of Dancing with the stars because she was crying in the bathroom. Apparently the infamous subject of Netflix’s Inventing Anna I read some negative comments online about her cha cha on opening night and she just couldn’t handle the pressure.

“I know what she did was really controversial and not right and I could never justify that to her or anyone in her life,” Sosa said in a video posted to his Instagram. “Nobody deserves the amount of hate she’s getting right now. She deserves a second chance. She took responsibility.”

Okay, two things: no one twisted Delvey’s bejeweled ankle, I mean armto be on the last great variety show on television. And secondly, she’s getting some pretty sweet treatment because she’s a convicted criminal. She is given a national platform to supposedly rehabilitate her image, while getting to wear fancy dresses and get free spray tans. Not a bad outcome for someone who posed as an heiress and conned thousands of dollars out of banks, hotels and unsuspecting victims who fell for her extraordinary scam.

It could have been worse, Ms. Delvey. Just ask Jenn Tran about the man she almost married.

Can we dance tango now?

Eric Roberts (The dark knight) with partner Britt StewartTo celebrate Oscar night in the ballroom, the duo visited LA’s Academy Museum, where Roberts relived the night he nearly won an Oscar for the 1985 film. Runaway train. Beautiful moment! His tango to The godfather theme was not so moving though. “Listen my love, gravitas, presence, you brought all that,” said jury member Bruno Tonioli. “In the waltz you need a little more rotation. One two three one two three, that’s it.” Point: 15 of 30

Reginald VelJohnson (Family matters) with partner Emma SlaterThe show made a lame appeal to Die Hard by driving a police car into the ballroom and having VelJohnson put his uniform back on so he could dance an inconspicuous paso doble to “Ode to Joy.” After dedicating it to his former co-star Bruce Willis, VelJohnson ended the song by shouting, “Welcome to the party, bro!” “You’re starting to thaw out,” Tonioli said. “We’re getting there.” Point: 15 of 30

Former con artist Anna Delvey with partner Ezra Sosa: It’s not so easy to feign confidence; Delvey’s quickstep to “Suddenly I See” by The devil wears Prada lacked showmanship and the judges couldn’t ignore it. “Anna, listen, it’s hard to deal with the haters, but I want you to fully embrace this,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba said. “You’re still holding back a little bit. You’ve got beautiful lyrics.” Point: 17 of 30

Jenn Tran (The Bachelorette) with partner Sasha Farber. Tran opened the evening with a tango that enhanced a cartwheel, but which apparently caused her problems because she Great Gatsby music on the dance floor. No problem! Tonioli said she still performed like a “naughty little kitten” — whatever that means. “You’re a natural performer,” added judge Derek Hough. “Watch the shoulders. When the elbow drops, the shoulder pops up.” Point: 19 of 30

Tori Spelling (Beverly Hills, 90210) with partner Pasha Pashkov. Spelling injected emotion into her rumba on “This is Me” by The greatest showman mumbling the lyrics and throwing her arms in the air as if to say, “Can you believe I’m still here, y’all?” Of course we can! “This show is about a journey, a real journey, and you don’t get the benefit of it until you actually go on it,” Inaba said. “Tonight, you really took a risk.” Point: 19 of 30

Model Brooks Nader with partner Gleb Savchenko. Producers hinted at a showmance during the rehearsal set after the model stole a kiss from her handsome partner. The buss didn’t perform, but their quickstep to Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” earned a standing ovation — and more hints about whether a romance was in the works. “I can tell you put a lot of overtime into this,” Tonioli said. “It really worked. It was so good. He really had that right quickstep quality.” Point: 20 out of 30

Olympic rugby player Ilona Maher with partner Alan BerstenThe duo closed the evening with a Dirty dance salsa with multiple lifts — with Maher doing most of the heave-ho’ing! The girl’s got muscles And panache. “That was amazing,” Inaba said. “Listen, not only was that a moment that people will talk about for years to come, you’re also reframing the whole conversation… about what femininity is.” Point: 21 out of 30 (uh…she deserved more, guys)

Phaedra Parks (The Real Housewives of Atlanta) with partner Val Chmerkovskiy: The pro occasionally outshined his sexy partner with a few show-stopping moves, but Parks had enough presence to turn her foxtrot into “I’m Telling You I’m Not Going” from Dream girls in a guarantee that she will stay for a few more weeks. “I just can’t help but smile and grin when I look at you,” Hough said. “You radiate sensuality. That was really beautiful.” Point: 21 of 30

Super Bowl Champion Danny Amendola with partner Witney CarsonThe baller was a little stiff during his jive to Top gun‘s “Danger Zone,” but he hit all the steps and even managed to fit a few gymnastic moves into his performance. “He took off like a jet,” Tonioli said. “Talk about cruising at high altitude. A little bit of turbulence there, but you handled it well and you landed beautifully.” Point: 21 of 30

NBA Champion Dwight Howard with partner Daniella Karagach
The diminutive pro discovered that the only way to perform with a giant like Howard was to hold his forearms while he danced the foxtrot to “City of Stars” by La La Land. It worked! “That foxtrot made the impossible possible,” Inaba said. “I was so worried about how you were going to get through that.” Point: 22 of 30

The Bachelor‘s Joey Graziadei with partner Jenna Johnson: Johnson brought in her husband Val Chermkovskiy to teach Graziadei how to look sexy as she performs the rumba to “Shallow” by A star is born. Something dawned on the bachelor boy: Graziadei was watching and dancing is called. “Joey, you are a leading man,” Hough said. “You are a fantastic partner for Jenna. The way you filled the room was beautiful.” Point: 22 of 30

Olympic Stephen Nedoroscik with partner Rylee Arnold: Nedoroscik, who earned his nickname Superman after the Paris Olympics, performed the Paso Doble to John Williams’ theme from the 1978 film. He even took off his glasses! Too crazy for his knee-walking; my quads hurt just watching him. “You’re so much fun to watch,” Inaba said. “The likeability factor in your routine is so great. We have some form issues that we’ll get to later.” Point: 22 of 30

Chandler Kinney (Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin) with partner Brandon Armstrong
The actress received a standing ovation for her beautiful rumba to “What Was I Made For” by Barbie. If there was one America has talent– Like Golden Buzzer on this show, Kinney would be sent straight to the finals. “Chandler, you were made to dance,” Hough said. “So beautiful, the texture and your movement… I honestly had more notes for Brandon than you.” Point: 24 of 30

While former Greg Brady tried to steal some camera time, hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough announced the bottom three after two weeks: Spelling, VelJohnson and Delvey.

Veljohnson is saved! Spelling and the con man are sent away instead.

So what are you going to take away from this competition? Hough asks Delvey.

“Nothing,” Delvey replies. Serious? See: aforementioned national platform. Beautiful dresses. Free tanning.

Whatever. No show next week, folks. See you on October 8th.
