Inside Out 2 from Disney-Pixar—The highest-grossing film of 2024 so far is streaming on Disney+ this week.

Featuring the voices of Amy Poehler, Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri and several others, Inside Out 2 premiered in theaters on June 14 and, per Cash register Mojogrossed over $154 million in its opening weekend at North American box office.

According to box office tracker, the sequel to the 2015 Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature has grossed $652 million in the United States and nearly $1.030 billion internationally. Global grosses to date stand at $1.682 billion.

After debuting on digital streaming on premium video on demand on August 20, Inside Out 2 can be streamed on Disney+ from Wednesday, September 25.

However, when Riley turns 13 and enters puberty, Riley’s headquarters is renovated to accommodate a whole new set of emotions, including fear (Maya Hawke), envy (Ayo Edebiri), boredom (Adèle Exarchopoulos) and shame (Paul Walter Hauser).

Fear in particular has taken hold of Riley’s brain, so Joy and her fellow emotions devise a plan to ensure that the emotion doesn’t take over the young teen’s life.

‘Inside Out 2’ was a huge hit with critics

Inside Out 2 received excellent reports from Rotten tomatoes critics, who collectively gave the animated film a 90% “fresh” rating based on 314 reviews. The film achieved a 95% “fresh” Audience Score on RTbased on over 5,000 verified user reviews on the site.

Among the individual assessments of Inside Out 2Philip De Semlyen of Time-out writes about the film: “Sparky, kaleidoscopic and brutally honest about the harder side of growing up, Inside Out 2 is Pixar’s most profound and moving film since, well, Inside Out.”

CNN critic Brian Lowry shares De Semlyen’s sentiments, writing: “A wonderfully clever sequel that jazzes up the concept with one dreaded word: Puberty. Regardless of one’s age, there’s much to like in a film that delivers the requisite laughs and sweetness while also managing to feel quite profound.”

Additionally, Kyle Smith of the Wall Street Journal notes that Inside Out 2 is “a strikingly funny and observational parable about teenage angst that has a lot to say about the state of youth today,” while Olly Richards of Empire Magazine writes about the film: “It’s probably the best film since Coconutand the best sequel since Toy Story 3.”

Inside Out 2however, also has its share of opponents RT, including Alison Willmore of New Yorker Magazine/Vulture. In her review, Willmore writes, “The film’s newfound emotions and entire structure don’t feel sophisticated enough for someone suddenly experiencing the painful pressure to fit in and tearing herself apart in an effort to hate herself.”
