Kenneth Walker III is back, but four defensive players have been ruled out for the Seahawks’ Week 4 game in Detroit

Mafe, who leads the team with 3.0 sacks, initially injured his knee during Seattle’s Week 2 win over the Patriots. He was able to play last week against Miami, but something happened with that injury that will keep him out this week.

“I don’t want to get into specific plays and stuff like that, but it’s nothing major, something that came back in the Miami game that kept him out of this,” Macdonald said.

Of Walker, who rushed for 103 yards in Week 1 before retiring late in the game with an oblique injury, Macdonald said: “He looked good. He’s ready to go.”

Macdonald added that having Walker teamed up with Zach Charbonnet again gives the Seahawks “the duo that you’ve had all offseason and how you envisioned our offense operating, and then if one guy goes down goes, guys like Kenny McIntosh step up and can take on those roles, but we’re kind of back to the old situation we had in recent weeks.”

The Seahawks got an extra day of work this week, starting with the usual practices on Wednesday and Thursday despite a game on Monday, and then broke up the practice week with a walkthrough speed practice on Friday before holding their regular Friday practice on Saturday. Macdonald said the schedule was put together primarily with Monday’s game in mind, but also with two consecutive short-rest games in mind, starting with next Sunday’s game against the Giants, followed by a game on Thursday night against the 49ers.

“It’s just where we’re at this year: getting the installations in, getting our normal work week in and then trying to get a day of recovery, thinking ahead to what will best enable us to be ready for Monday night, and beyond “We also have a few matches next to each other,” he said. “So it’s a combination of short-term and long-term vision.”
