Never mind, you can no longer adjust God of War Ragnarok’s PSN requirement because the modder wants to avoid “possible threats on the part of Sony.”

God of War Ragnarok’s PSN requirement on PC wasn’t an issue thanks to a mod, except that mod has now been removed for fear of legal action.

When God of War Ragnarok finally arrived on PC this month, it had a little catch: you had to connect your PSN account to play it. Naturally, this led to the game’s review being somewhat bombed, although there are no signs that PlayStation has changed its mind on the matter. Then along came a Modder who made a mod that allowed you to bypass the PSN login malarky, although it didn’t always seem to work. This mod was always going to be a bit risky, and now the Modder has made the decision to remove the mod completely, for the understandable reason that he was afraid Sony would take legal action.

“Hi, that was my personal decision because the mod has gotten too much attention,” the Modder wrote in a statement (via VGC). “I thought it would be better to remove it from the public to avoid potential threats from Sony’s side, even though the project never changed anything to the memory related to Sony products, but it is better to to err on the side of caution.” Important to note that the Mod is not claiming that Sony has taken any kind of legal action regarding the mod, but that they are doing so as a precaution in case Sony does something.

This PSN requirement from Sony has generally been a bit controversial for this year’s PC releases, with the biggest incident being Helldivers 2, which suffered from severe reviews when it was announced that you had to sign up for a PSN account for months after release. It was so poorly received that Sony reversed the decision, but I don’t see this being true for all future releases.
