Trump withdraws from 60 Minutes interview, CBS says

according to CBS News Donald Trump has withdrawn from a previously scheduled interview with 60 Minutes that was set to air next week during a primetime election special.

The election special continues on Monday Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz.

In a statement, the network said Trump “has decided not to participate” after “initially accepting 60 Minutes’ request for an interview.” CBS News added:

Our original invitation to former President Donald Trump to be interviewed on 60 Minutes stands.

The announcement came just hours before CBS News hosted a vice presidential debate between Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance, and his Democratic opponent, Tim Walz.

A Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung, denied CBS’s characterization of events, calling it “fake news.”

Fake news. 60 Minutes begged for an interview even after they were caught lying about Hunter Biden’s laptop in 2020. There were initial discussions, but nothing was ever planned or committed.

They also insisted on live fact checking, which is unprecedented. https://t.co/l7xIacc1JK

Donald Trump has said he plans to discuss tonight’s vice presidential debate on a “person by game basis.”

In a Truth Social post, the Republican presidential candidate wrote:

I’ll be doing a personal PLAY BY PLAY of the debate tomorrow between the brilliant JD Vance and the highly inarticulate “Tampon” Tim Walz. I hope Lyin’ Kamala Harris, Cognitively Challenged, will listen so she can once again show the world how she will fabricate false facts and stories to get around an administrative failure! Anyway, I’ll comment on what’s going on.

On the Republican side, Vance has been preparing for the debate with the congressman Tom Emmer as a replacement for Walz. Emmer, like Walz, is from Minnesota.

On Monday, Emmer provided insight into how debate practice works and told reporters about portraying Walz:

To be honest, it’s hard because he’s very good at the debate stage.

What are the rules for the debate?

Like during last month’s debate between Kamala Harris And Donald Trumpthere is no live audience in the studio tonight.

Unlike the two previous presidential debates so far, neither candidate’s microphones will be muted. However, the moderator retains the option to mute his microphones.

J.D. Vance And Tim Walz has two minutes for closing statements. Vance won a virtual coin toss and chose to get the final say.

There will be two commercial breaks.

CBS News has indicated that it is up to Walz and Vance to fact-check their opponents — and not the moderators.

CBS says a QR code will appear on the screen for parts of the debate. Viewers can scan the code to follow live coverage and analysis – including fact checks – of the debate on their website. Moderators will mainly focus on facilitating the debate and enforcing the rules of the debate, according to CBS.

Vance and Walz face off in the vice presidential debate

Good evening readers of American Politics and welcome to our coverage of tonight’s debate between the Democratic and Republican candidates for Vice President, Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz and Senator from Ohio J.D. Vance.

The two candidates will face off for 90 minutes in New York City in a televised debate hosted by CBS News and moderated by the network’s broadcaster. Norah O’Donnell And Margaret Brennan. It is likely to be the final showdown between the two parties’ tickets before election day on November 5, exactly five weeks away.

The pair – who have had sharp words for each other from a distance – are both Midwestern with very different styles and vastly different messages, and will bring contrasting forces to the gladiator ring. Vance is an experienced debater who loves confrontation under the glow of the TV lights; Walz, on the other hand, will be able to lean on the skills he learned during his seventeen years as a public school teacher.

Although vice-presidential debates are usually not very decisive, they can be important in a close battle. The stakes are raised by evidence from polls showing the battle between the two Kamala Harris And Donald Trump on the cutting edge.
