Bay Area Heat Wave: San Francisco 49ers fans brave 100-degree temperatures during game against Arizona Cardinals at Levi’s Stadium

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGO) — In the South Bay, 49ers fans braved the scorching heat to watch their team take on the Arizona Cardinals at Levi’s Stadium. Beating the heat was the goal for most fans.

Nine fans were ready for the battle in Levi’s Stadium, but many did not expect any unsportsmanlike behavior given the weather conditions.

“It’s really hot. There’s a toaster coming in,” said one fan.

Levi’s set a game day record on Sunday with a starting temperature of 95 degrees against the Cardinals.

Pre-game tailgating for many, like David Clark and his sons, was more of a fan survival game. They set up a tent in record time.

“I look for shade and definitely hydrate. Lots of big hats,” Clark said.

It was definitely time to bring out the old-school fans and the fancy personal fans.

“This one sprays water and has three speeds,” says Lori Runco.

Runco said: bring on the heat. She was ready.

‘It’s not normal, but I’ve been here in freezing rain and storms. We’re in the same place. What are you going to do,” Runco said.

Tim Stubbs doused his wife Jane in sunscreen.

“I mean, I think you have to stay hydrated, use sunscreen and give yourself enough energy to shout ‘Go Niners,’” Stubbs said.

“We’re here because we’re die-hard Niner fans, rain or shine,” said Giselle Roman.

Roman and Sarah Aleman felt cool and collected before kickoff. We spoke to them later during the game via video chat.

‘It’s really warm and sunny. We have cooling towels. I wish we had shade,” Roman said.

The 49ers sent this message to fans: “The well-being of our community is our top priority, and we recognize the impact this heat wave is having on everyone. Levi’s Stadium has free water stations throughout the main concourses, and our guest service locations will ensure sunscreen is available.”

The Niner Faithful showed their strength even when it was hot.

The 49ers lost to the Cardinals 24-23.
