MLB Playoff Scores, Live Updates: Guardians vs. Tigers in crucial Game 3; Mets, Padres go for knockouts in Game 4s

It’s the final day of four games of the MLB Postseason, and with two crucial Game 3 matchups in the American League and two Game 4 elimination matchups in the National League, the stakes couldn’t be higher.

In the ALDS, the Detroit Tigers host the Cleveland Guardians in the early game. That series is tied at 1-1, with Detroit coming off a 3-0 victory in Game 2 after an excellent Tarik Skubal performance. He pitched seven innings and allowed just three hits with zero walks and eight strikeouts, while Kerry Carpenter hit a pinch-hit three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning that accounted for all the runs. On Wednesday, Alex Cobb takes the mound for Cleveland against Keider Montero for Detroit.

In Kansas City, the Royals host the Yankees in Game 3. KC took Game 2 4-2 and took home field advantage in the series. Maikel Garcia had four singles and Salvador Perez homered in that win. The Yankees send Clark Schmidt to the mound against Seth Lugo for the Royals.

In the NL, the Phillies have their backs against the wall in Game 4 against the Mets. In the pitching match we see Ranger Suarez for Philadelphia against Jose Quintana for New York. Quintana allowed no runs in six innings in a wild-card start against the Brewers. He made three starts against the Phillies in the regular season and held Phillies hitters to a .224/.274/.259 slash line in three Mets wins.

Finally, the Padres can knock off the Dodgers in the nightcap with a win in San Diego. The intense rivalry caused fans to throw things at players and Manny Machado earned the ire of Dave Roberts. The Padres are sending Dylan Cease to the mound, while the Dodgers have yet to announce a starter.

  • AJ Hinch makes a change on the mound

Lefty Brant Hurter replaces starter Keider Montero, who threw an error-free first inning.

  • Tigers get on the board first

Riley Greene sneaks a single up the middle from Alex Cobb to score Parker Meadows. Tigers lead 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
