The reveal of Agatha All along’s teenage identity is unsurprising, absolutely epic

Agatha All Around had the shortest episode yet last night, but certainly the most impactful. After being chased by the Salem Seven and an ’80s-themed sleepover trial involving Agatha being chased by her mother and accidentally (?) killing Alice, we got the biggest reveal of the series. We know who Teen is. And we probably can’t call him Teen anymore.

The show so cleverly did this minutes before the big shows you might have missed it. In the testing room, Teen reads a name from the Ouija board, Nicholas Scratch, the name of Agatha’s deceased son.

We knew that name, of course, but the meaning here is that the glamor kept Teen from saying who he was not prevent him from saying Nicholas Scratch, which confirms to Agatha once and for all that Teen is not secretly her lost son. Hence her immediate change in tone and her realization of who Teen actually is.

That would be Billy Maximoff, son of Wanda Maximoff, who later becomes the comic book Young Avenger Wiccan. Although he may already be is Wiccan, judging by what came next.

Not only is it revealed that Billy is Billy, but that he already secretly has powers and is able to control the surviving witches by throwing Agatha into a swamp and then launching himself into the mud for good measure. It looks like all three are dead, but… they’re clearly not dead. Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal, who we all think is Death at this point, is nowhere to be found at the moment, so maybe she’ll save them.

The ‘al Wiccan’ idea comes to fruition when we see Billy wearing his signature headband, although here it is styled to resemble his mother’s Scarlet Witch crown. He’s powerful, he’s got the outfit, he’s…basically Wiccan as he is.

There are many questions about this, namely who knew his identity and when. One strange thing in retrospect is that we saw Billy panic while he was alone when the Salem Seven came after him, and not use magic to defend himself. Did he remember it later? Was this week actually the first moment Agatha knew? What about the other witches? What about Rio?

But Billy, being Wiccan, leads to another development: what is he doing on The Road? I mean, I think we know. What would the son of a powerful dead witch want as his “heart’s desire” when he reaches the end? This entire series builds on Wanda Maximoff’s resurrection after her Multiverse of Madness death, which would reflect insider reports. Scarlet Witch will return to play a major role in the MCU from here. I don’t know how this will work out differently.

Where things go from here is another matter. Billy’s secret is out, he has attacked the coven outright, Rio is missing, the Seven are in hot pursuit, they have more trials to come. But the show very much feels like it needs to shift gears with Agatha killing another member and Billy’s attack. No more skipping the path to new house after house while holding hands. Things get wild in the last four episodes.
