Mayor Henyard files lawsuit over rally outside Village Hall – NBC Chicago

The drama continues in Dolton.

Mayor Tiffany Henyard is taking legal action over a meeting held outside Village Hall earlier this week.

Henyard and two trustees are named in the lawsuit, which NBC 5 obtained.

They are asking a judge to declare Dolton’s Village Hall the primary place for conducting village business, and that no meetings have taken place at the village hall since September 3.rd – are declared invalid, as are any regulations that have been adopted.

On Monday, a majority of the trustees, village clerk and village manager attended a meeting at the park district. All are named as defendants in the lawsuit.

The mayor also held a meeting that evening which was canceled due to lack of quorum.

Trustee Jason House, mayor pro tem, told NBC-5 the meeting was held in the park district due to ongoing capacity issues at the village hall.

“The attorney general gave us a binding opinion that meetings in the village hall were not legal – they are against the open meetings law, meaning there was not enough space for residents and others,” he said.

We have reached out to the mayor’s attorney and the majority of trustees for comment.
