The Montreal Canadiens started their scoring spree for the 2024-2025 season based on Cole Caufield.

Caufield donned his new number 13 and shot past Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Anthony Stolarz. Caufield looked like a kid in a candy store and the fans went crazy. The count was the 150th point of Caufield’s career, in game number 206.

Caufield’s first tally of the season marked the third season-opening game of the season in which Caufield scored a goal. The scoring that intrigued the Habs when they drafted Caufield has translated into some consistency. Him scoring a goal in the first match is a great way for him to hit the ground running.

How will the confidence translate into game #2 and so on?

Caufield doesn’t necessarily have to be the only guy scoring for the Habs to succeed, but it certainly goes a long way if he is. So when he scored a goal in the Habs’ season opener, it was a reason to be excited and hopeful about what’s to come. Caufield has the ability to score in the 40-50 range like no one else on the team not named Patrik Laine.

With the Boston Bruins next on the schedule, the Canadiens will have their hands full and if Caufield continues his scoring ways, it would go a long way. Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman will be riding a wave of confidence with his new contract in hand. So Caufield will do best to get some pucks on net early and often.

Certain teams are just more fun to score against, the Bruins and Leafs being at the top of the list. If Caufield can make another one against the Bruins and put on a strong streak, I don’t see how he can’t have another high-scoring career. The top line is healthy and the team has some confidence thanks to Samuel Montembeault’s shutout of the rival Maple Leafs, who knows what lies ahead.

I have a good feeling about Caufield and the team should definitely be in the right place to hit the ground running this season and take a big step.
