St. Xavier staffer fired after ‘possible boundary violation’ with student

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio – An education employee at St. Xavier High School has been fired after a “possible boundary violation” with a student, according to a note sent to St. Xavier parents Friday.

The notice came from St. Xavier principal Dan Lynch, saying the staff member’s contract had been terminated. According to Lynch, Springfield Township police have been notified and an investigation is underway.

Lynch said in the note to parents that members of the school board were made aware of the issue last week. According to a news release from the Springfield Township Police Department, St. Xavier officials contacted the department on Wednesday.

Police said the school provided them with information about “possible inappropriate contact and communication” between a school staff member and a student.

Springfield police said they are still working to determine if a crime has been committed.

“The care of the student and their family remains the school’s top priority during this most difficult time,” Lynch’s message said.

Lynch wrote that the staff member has been informed not to contact the school’s faculty, staff or students.

He did not provide any information about what the teacher allegedly did to cross a boundary with a student, or when the alleged “boundary violation” occurred. Lynch only mentioned one student’s consequences and did not indicate that the school is investigating other violations.

WCPO has contacted the Springfield Township Police Department for more information.

WCPO is working to learn more and will update this story as more information becomes available.
