49ers injury news: Jordan Mason, Malik Mustapha avoid bad news

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided injury updates during a conference call Friday afternoon. There were no major injuries, but the Niners may have their eyes on a new kicker as they wait for the MRI for Matthew Wright.

Shanahan said Wright’s shoulder was dislocated: “I snapped out of it for a moment.” We just need more information.” Wright has a chance to play in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs, but Shanahan said, “Now we have to look at someone else,” if Wright can’t go.

Safety Malik Mustapha avoided the high ankle sprain that sidelines athletes for weeks. He has a low ankle sprain and is day to day.

Running back Jordan Mason has an AC sprain in his left shoulder and is day-to-day. That’s good news for the Niners.

Shanahan had no update on Christian McCaffrey’s timeline: “Continue to improve. But we are not going to open it this week.” He seems concerned about the daily questions surrounding the reigning Offensive Player of the Year.

Rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall has had his practice window open and will practice on Monday.

Here is Shanahan when asked if Pearsall could play against the Chiefs: “Most likely it would be a longer run-in. We’re not going to rush it or anything. When he’s ready, he’s ready. Otherwise we still have a few weeks.”

Defensive tackle Jordan Elliott should return to practice after missing time with a knee injury, while cornerback Charavrius Ward is day-to-day with his knee injury.
