When we started, the Atlanta Thrashers were a thing, the Winnipeg Jets were history, and their successors were playing out yet another owner-arena drama in Phoenix.

Tonight, that franchise visits Long Island for the first time as Utah HC, or Utah Halitosis Chronicus, if you’re not into the whole short story.

As Isles fans, we can enjoy (we hope) the Isles debut of Anthony Duclair and the NHL debut of Maxim Tsyplakov, two offensive wingers who should add more spice and threat to the 2024-2025 lineup. Semyon Varlamov, the only Isles goalie on the NHL roster to play in a preseason game, will get the start.
