Utah football injury report before kickoff against Arizona State

TEMPE, Ariz – Kyle Whittingham and his Utah football program traveled south for a Friday night game with the Arizona State Sun Devils.

The Utes have dealt with a number of serious injuries this season, but the bye week came at a good time for them to bounce back. Still, here’s the latest on injury news for the Utes.

Utah’s Cam Rising returns from injury and starts?

According to ActionNetwork’s Brett McMurphy, Cam Rising will start against Arizona State.

According to everyone else who has been following Utah football over the past few weeks, they’ll believe it when they see it. There remains a lot of concern about the report given Utah’s willingness to make decisions until the final minutes before kickoff.

However, sources have indicated to KSL Sports that Rising will return tonight, barring any unforeseen issues. Sources also provided updates throughout the week. Rising took over most, if not all, of the valuable reps between Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday’s workouts.

Utah’s depth along the defensive line has been tested

Defensive end Connor O’Toole suffered an injury fairly early against Utah State. He left that game and has yet to see action. Unfortunately, O’Toole is still expected to be unavailable tonight.

He won’t be the only defensive lineman not playing tonight. Defensive tackle Keanu Tanuvasa is also expected to miss the game.

Aliki Vimahi remains unavailable, so look for true freshman Dallas Vakalahi to start in his place while Simote Pepa fills in.

Utah is getting thin at linebacker

Utah veteran LB Karene Reid suffered an injury late in the game against Baylor and has been out since. He’s getting close to a return, but he’s still not ready to take back the field.

The depth at linebacker has produced some hits with Reid and Levani Damuni. That list now also includes Sione Fotu, who is not expected to be available for tonight’s match.

So it will largely be up to Hall, Lander Barton and Trey Reynolds to patrol the middle.
