People are registering to vote in the November election before Friday’s deadline

Friday is the last day for people to register to vote in the November election.

Most election boards and tag offices are closed that day, but there is still time as the Rogers County Board of Elections is open until midnight Friday.

Many voters say it’s important, no matter who you vote for, to make your voice heard. Registering to vote is the first step to that end.

The Tulsa County Board of Elections was packed with people wanting to register to vote or make sure their registrations were in order for Election Day.

For some voters, like Julian Wycliffe-Williams, Friday was a big day.

“It’s my first time registering to vote,” said Julian Wycliffe-Williams. “I’m married to an American citizen, and I waited five years and I got my citizenship in March, so this was the first year I could vote. You could vote from the country you come from, like me from South Africa. But you cannot give votes an impact here for five years.”

She says it was an easy and smooth process to complete her registration.

“She even said, ‘Do you want me to check it and make sure it’s right,’ and I said, ‘Yes, please,'” Wycliffe-Williams said. “She checked it. It literally took me two minutes to get in and I am so impressed with this service.”

Volunteers also lined the streets to collect last-minute registrations.

People could fill out the forms there that were turned over and processed by the County Election Board.

“I think it’s important for people to exercise their right to vote,” said Ed Rossman, a volunteer. “I see it as a civic duty. It is important for their future, but also for that of their children. That of my grandchildren.”

Voters say it’s important to make sure your voice is heard because every vote counts – and everyone has a different perspective.

“This way, if things don’t go my way, I can’t blame myself,” Rhonda Maslonka said. “I have to speak up to say I was part of it.”

Regardless of which county you live in, you can register with the Rogers County Election Board until midnight Friday.

Election day is Tuesday, November 5.
