Trail Blazers fall 101-99 to LA Clippers in Seattle

SEATTLE Forward Kai Jones scored on an alley-opp dunk set up by a pass from guard Jordan Miller that gave the LA Clippers a 101-99 lead over the Portland Trail Blazers with 2.2 seconds left on Friday night at the Climabe Pledge Arena.

That turned out to be the final score after Blazers guard Dalana Banton missed a three-point attempt at the buzzer.

Toumani Camara led the Blazers with 19 points and nine rebounds. The Clippers got 16 points from Derrick Jones Jr. and 14 from James Harden.

Portland shot 41.5% from the field and hit 32.3% of their three-point shots while playing without key offensive weapons Anfernee Simons, Shaedon Sharpe and Den Avdija.

FOURTH QUARTER

Blazers steal. Henderson was fouled on a layup attempt with 4.2 seconds left. Missed first free throw. Finished second in a tie at 99-99.

A Dalano Banton three makes it 99-98 Clippers with less than 25 seconds left.

Turnover on a bad pass from Scoot Henderson leads to a three from EJ Harkless. Clippers lead 97-91 with 1:24 remaining.

Donovan Clingan dunk makes it 94-91, Clippers.

A Toumani Camara three makes it 90-89, Clippers with 4:17 to go.

Scoot Henderson now has 11 points on 4-for-15 shooting with five turnovers.

Henderson hit a three to give the Blazers a 65-63 lead with 5:56 left in the third quarter.

Kris Murray and Rayan Rupert each led the Blazers with four points.

Portland shot 45%, compared to 36.8% for the Clippers, who were led by Derrick Jones Jr. with six points. and James Harden.

Blazers trail 20-19 with 2:30 left in the quarter. Kirs Murry has four points on 2-for-3 shooting.

Scoot Henderson scored two goals within the first minute of action.

SEATTLE – The Portland Trail Blazers will start Scoot Henderson, Kris Murray, Toumani Camara, Jerami Grant and Deandre Ayton against the LA Clippers on Friday night at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle.

Out with injuries are Shaedon Sharpe (shoulder), Anfernee Simons (ankle pain), Robert Williams III (hamstring) and Matisse Thybulle (knee).

Striker Deni Avdija will miss out for personal reasons.

Blazers coach Chauncey Billups said before the game that he wants to see evidence that the team is ready to pick up the pace this season.

Expect Henderson and center Donovan Clingan to log healthy minutes.
