Ohio State football faces its toughest challenge yet this season on Saturday, and it has significant implications for the Big Ten and the College Football Playoff.

The Buckeyes (5-0, 2-0 in Big Ten) will play No. 3 Oregon (5-0, 2-0) at Autzen Stadium on Saturday in Eugene, Oregon. Saturday’s game will mark the first time Ohio State has traveled to play at Autzen Stadium since 1967.

Saturday’s game will also feature two transfer quarterbacks: Ohio State’s Will Howard and Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, both of whom transferred this offseason from Kansas State and Oklahoma, respectively. Ohio State leads the all-time series with Oregon 9-1, with the loss coming in the last meeting of 2021 at Ohio Stadium.

Ohio State vs Oregon predictions, picks, odds

Joel Klatt, Fox Sports: Ohio State 28, Oregon 22

“I think Ohio State goes on the road and gets the win. Ohio State is favored by 3.5, I actually think they cover that 3.5. I like Ohio State, something like 28-22, 22 is a odd number, I know, but remember that Oregon will always go for two at some point, so they always have those odd numbers… I like 28-22, Buckeyes winning on the road against Oregon.

Bill Rabinowitz, Columbus Dispatch: Ohio State 45, Oregon 31

“The Buckeyes are finally being tested, and it’s a big one. The Ducks are talented on both sides of the ball, and the long journey west is a concern. But this is an experienced Ohio State team that eager to prove itself against a worthy opponent, Oregon will take some hits, but the Buckeyes have better talent overall if Ohio State avoids costly turnovers, it pulls away late for a signature win.

Rob Oller, Columbus Dispatch: Ohio State 28, Oregon 20

“If Ohio State’s offensive line were completely ‘solid’, that is, finally able to trade punches with above-average defensive lines, the Buckeyes would prevail by double digits, but I’m still not convinced that the O-line is fully capable of sniffing Still, the line, and everything else OSU throws out there, has improved and will be good enough to beat the Ducks in a close game. Expect the best offensive players in the Buckeyes – Jeremiah Smith, Emeka Egbuka and Quinshon Judkins – will make life just strong enough for Oregon so that the Scarlet and Gray Eugene can still escape undefeated.

Joey Kaufman, Columbus Dispatch: Ohio State 28, Oregon 24

The additional travel for the Buckeyes, along with playing in an unfamiliar environment, should not be considered potential X-factors this weekend. It’s been 10 years since they last went to the West Coast during the regular season. Nevertheless, Ohio State performed almost flawlessly in the first few weeks, revived the ground game and remained strong on defense. The 34 points they’ve allowed over a five-game span are the fewest in the Bowl Subdivision in 2024. Oregon has far more talent on the skill front than the Buckeyes have faced in the Big Ten, but the defensive line , the strength of their defense, has an advantage over an offensive line that has been more inconsistent than a year ago, giving Ohio State the edge in a heavyweight tilt that will be decided in the trenches.

Chris Hansen, Eugene Register Guard: Ohio State 35, Oregon 27

The Ducks defense has allowed just one touchdown and a total of sixteen points over the last ten quarters, but they haven’t experienced anything close to what the Buckeyes have to offer Eugene this weekend. Oregon will have to play flawless football to slow down Ohio State’s offense. This also applies to the violation. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who has thrown three interceptions in the red zone in the past two games, can no longer give away scoring opportunities this week. Luckily for the Ducks, they play in Autzen Stadium, where they are 34-1 since 2018. Expect an entertaining game in a tough environment with the Buckeyes scoring last as they avenge the loss to Oregon in Columbus in 2021.

ESPN Analysis: Ohio State has a 64.1% chance of beating Oregon on the road Saturday in Eugene, Oregon.
