Ole Miss Football addresses fake injury concerns ahead of LSU game

The Ole Miss football program is aware that the Rebels are a topic in injury faking discussions.

There has been a lot of talk this season about players faking or exaggerating injuries and the benefit that brings. For defenses facing a powerful, up-tempo attack, a well-timed cramp can help. Injury timeouts can slow offenses at inopportune times and allow defenses to reset.

They can also afford a foul with the same benefit.

Before a big game at LSU on Saturday (6:30 p.m., ABC), Ole Miss discussed the topic in a press release Friday.

“Feigned injuries have become a major topic in college football, and we realize that our program has been part of that discussion,” the release said. “We have been in contact with the National Coordinator for Football Administration and provided relevant medical information for his assessment to answer questions regarding recent injuries. We have also updated the SEC office and our head coach will communicate with our coaches and players to ensure we are on good behavior and compliant in this matter.”

Ole Miss was criticized online for causing 11 injury stoppages against South Carolina in Week 6. Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer also seemed skeptical about the developments. The Rebels were also criticized for similar behavior when they hosted Kentucky.
