Watch: Kirk Herbstreit’s trip to Red River Rivalry vlogged by ‘College GameDay’ after leaving early

Sometimes being a top talent in the college football media landscape has its challenges.

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, a former Ohio State quarterback and a key member of “College GameDay,” woke up Saturday morning in Eugene, Oregon, to spend a few hours on ESPN’s pregame show. However, halfway through the show, Herbstreit left the set to prepare for another big match.

Herbstreit left early to catch a flight as he is en route to Oklahoma-Texas at 3:30 PM ET in Dallas. The flight is more than 2,000 miles from the site of No. 2 Ohio State vs. No. 3 Oregon on Saturday.

Given the unique circumstances, ESPN naturally took advantage of its opportunity by vlogging Herbstreit’s odyssey to the State Fair of Texas.

ESPN set up a two-camera setup on Herbstreit as he was driven to his next location during his trips to Dallas. He also had a microphone and got involved in Pat McAfee’s antics with the “College GameDay” student field goal attempt, which raised $100,000 with Nick Saban in hand. It appears that Herbstreit was even followed by another car while he was in the convertible.

β€œIt was extremely cold on that ride,” Herbstreit wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, after the show ended. “Who ordered the convertible?!? Whatever it takes to get to the Red River Rivalry in Dallas with a kick of 3:30 PM ET. First time I’ve ever left halfway through the show hoping to make it to the game that I’m calling. Currently over Salt Lake City approaching the Cotton Bowl for (Oklahoma and Texas).”

Herbstreit later interviewed Colorado coach Deion Sanders from the plane before leaving Oregon. He then gave an analysis of his flight, which McAfee said sounded “amazing” even though Herbstreit “looks like a finger painting.”

ESPN sends its top team of Chris Fowler, Holly Rowe and Herbstreit to Oklahoma-Texas, while Ohio State-Oregon, the site of Saturday’s “GameDay,” airs on NBC.

Herbstreit has had quite a week as he was the color analyst for Amazon Prime’s “Thursday Night Football” between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. He then ventured to Eugene, Oregon, for “GameDay” before heading to Dallas Saturday morning.
