Unlinked from Tom Brady’s bid, Richard Seymour’s attempt to buy part of the Raiders advances

What’s missing from the reporting about the likely approval of Tom Brady’s attempt to buy a share of the Raiders is that Richard Seymour’s bid would also become a foregone conclusion.

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Seymour’s arrangement to buy a limited portion of the team has been approved by the league’s finance committee.

As PFT reported in July, so had Brady and Seymour linked their previously separate transactions together. The source says that Brady and Seymour’s bids have now been separated again.

Brady’s purchase comes with additional baggage, thanks to the conflict of interest that comes from owning part of one team and working for Fox as an analyst for, in theory, games involving all teams. The Brady restrictions obviously wouldn’t apply to Seymour.

We’re also told that the Brady purchase isn’t the slam dunk others have reported. Some owners remain concerned about his role at Fox, as evidenced by the decision to ban him from team facilities, practices and production meetings on Fox’s behalf. If only nine ultimately refuse to give Brady a thumbs up, the deal will be off.

Seymour, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, played with Brady in New England. They won three Super Bowls as teammates. The Patriots traded Seymour to the Raiders in 2009, where he spent four seasons.
