Maya Rudolph as Kamala Harris Can’t Handle ‘Vibrant’ VP Candidates During Parody Debate on ‘SNL’

Maya Rudolph and the cast of the 2024 election cycle’s political impersonators returned to the Studio 8H stage in New York on Saturday for the latest episode of “Saturday Night Live,” in which they watched last Tuesday’s vice presidential debate in the cold took in open air.

As Kamala Harris, Rudolph was joined by Andy Samberg as Harris’ husband, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, to start the sketch. The couple got cozy at home, poured a glass of wine and listened as Jim Gaffigan, who returned to play Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, and “SNL” cast member Bowen Yang as Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance went head-to-head on a variety of topics.

At one point, both VP candidates dodged answering questions, causing Rudolph as Harris to laugh nervously and say of Gaffigan as Walz, “Okay, okay. He’s out there, doing his thing, whatever that is…’

When Yang as Vance answered the next question from fellow cast member Heidi Gardner — who played CBS host and debate moderator Norah O’Donnell — with what sounded like a prepared answer, it impressed Gaffigan as Walz, who went on to say, “This guy is Good, he has an answer for everything.’ Yang as Vance seemed touched and appreciated the compliment.

Capitalizing on what amounted to a civil VP debate between the two real candidates, the two impersonators later agreed on other topics, eventually saying in unison, “That’s an area where we have a lot of common ground.”

Berlin’s ‘Take My Breath Away’ was then played as both candidates held hands and had a hilarious bonding moment on the shared screen.

At home, Rudolph watched as Harris spit out her wine, shocked, and asked, “Why are they friends?” Why are they vibrating?!”

Then “SNL” alum Dana Carvey as President Joe Biden showed up again after crashing their viewing party last week, and got his ice cream all over himself and Rudolph as Harris when he told her, “You’re going to be a great president.”

Nate Bargatze hosted this week’s episode, having previously hosted it for the first time almost a year ago. Coldplay – who just released a new album, ‘Moon Music’ – was the musical guest.

“SNL” airs on NBC at 11:30 PM EDT/8:30 PM PDT. Next week’s episode will be hosted by Ariana Grande, with Stevie Nicks playing music.
