Volleyball remains No. 6 in the AVCA poll


OMAHA, born. — After a week in which the Top 10 teams in the country combined to go 19-0, the Creighton Volleyball team maintained its best ranking in program history at No. 6 in the AVCA/Taraflex Top 25 Coaches poll released Monday, 7 October.

It is the 26th time Creighton has been in the Top 10, and the fifth week in a row this season. This marks the thirteenth consecutive campaign in which Creighton has spent at least one week in the Top 25.

The Bluejays are one of 15 schools (along with Baylor, BYU, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State, Pitt, Purdue, Stanford, Texas and Wisconsin) ranked in each of the last 53 polls ranked . Creighton has been ranked in all but six of its 122 weeks. The AVCA has released a Top 25 poll and 130 times in program history, which ranks 40th all time. Creighton is 214-47 all-time when playing as a ranked team in the AVCA poll.

Five of Creighton’s 2024 opponents are listed in this week’s poll. The Bluejays have already defeated No. 1. 20 (and current No. 16) USC on September 5, and lost five-set road matches at then No. 5 (and current No. 2) Nebraska (September 10) and then No. 4 (and current No. 4) Louisville ( September 15). CU also went to Lawrence, Kan., where it was then ranked No. 6 (and current No. 10) Purdue (Sept. 20) and then No. 10 (and current No. 8) Kansas (Sept. 21). BIG EAST rival Marquette is among the teams also receiving votes.

The top five of this week’s poll remained the same: Pittsburgh, Nebraska, Penn State, Louisville and Stanford.

The Bluejays moved up one spot to No. 5 in the third VolleyballMag Super 16 Media Poll of the season, and are also ranked No. 6 in this fall’s first Monday edition of the NCAA’s official RPI.

Creighton (13-2, 4-0 BIG EAST) returns to the field this week with a pair of road games, taking on Villanova (11-4, 4-0 BIG EAST) on Friday at 5 p.m. before visiting St. . John’s (13-5, 2-2 BIG EAST) on Saturday at 4 p.m.
