DreamWorks is planning a sequel to its critically acclaimed blockbuster, ‘The Wild Robot’

It looks like we’ll be seeing more ROZZUM Unit 7134 and her animal friends in the future. DreamWorks is planning a sequel to its critically acclaimed worldwide hit The wild robot. The film’s director, Chris Sanders, announced the news this morning during the Deadline Contenders session. “100% yes, there are definitely plans for a second one,” said the director.

One of the biggest hits of the season, the film has grossed over $107.6 million worldwide since its release in late September and has a brilliant 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Directed and written by three-time Oscar nominee Chris Sanders (How to Train Your Dragon, The Croods, Lilo & Stitch), The wild robot is based on Peter Brown’s best-selling trilogy. The photo was produced by Jeff Hermann (The Boss Baby 2, Kung Fu Panda). The film features the voices of Lupita Nyong’o, Pedro Pascal, Kit Connor, Catherine O’Hara, Mark Hamill, Bill Nighy and Stephanie Hsu. Brown’s second book in the series was published in 2017 and is titled The wild robot escapes.

During the Deadline Contenders session, Nyong’o, who voices the film’s central robot character Roz, also joked that she was inspired by AI voices like Alexa and Siri. She said, “Alexa, Siri and you know those voices on TikTok and Instagram that are so positive and there’s never anything wrong. That kind of ‘can-do’ attitude… That was the starting point for Roz and her journey towards self-actualization and evolution of self-expression.”
