The first frost of the year, followed by another cool afternoon

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Widespread frost advisories and freeze warnings were issued for central and western areas on Saturday. Those watches have been upgraded to include freeze alerts and the alerts are now expanding to nearly the entire state.

Let’s get straight to it. Freeze warnings cover most of Nebraska. Meanwhile, frost advisories are in effect for Southeast Nebraska and Hitchcock County. No matter where you live, all outdoor plants should be brought indoors tonight because lows in the mid-20s to mid-30s damage them.

Overnight minimum temperatures may range from 25 to 36 degrees, with the warmest areas in the southwest and southeast.

Highs early in the work week could even top 80 degrees in far western Nebraska, where winds will be from the south. Further east, high pressure will keep winds lighter and more variable in direction, resulting in low to mid 60s.

Tuesday will be our coolest day of the week, with highs now struggling to reach 60 degrees, but things will only get warmer from there. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 80s on Thursday and Friday. We’ll also be keeping an eye on rain chances for next weekend, with late Friday evening through Saturday afternoon offering the best chances for precipitation.

A mix of below and above average maximum temperatures, with rain possible late in the week.
