Germany defeated rivals the Netherlands and came close to reaching the quarter-finals of the Nations League.

Jamie Leweling had a goal disallowed for offside by the video assistant referee after poor defending from the Dutchman, who missed Virgil van Dijk through suspension.

Stuttgart’s Leweling then scored the only goal of the match, hitting a first-time effort from a half-cleared corner into the top corner.

The Dutch team created few clear chances, but did hit the crossbar twice, via Cody Gakpo’s cross and Xavi Simons’ quick shot.

Hungary won 2-0 in Bosnia-Herzegovina in the group’s other match, with captain Dominik Szoboszlai scoring twice.

Germany tops the group with 10 points, while the Netherlands and Hungary are level on points with five each.

The team finishing second will advance to the quarter-finals, while the team finishing third will face a relegation-promotion play-off.
