Today is the deadline to register to vote in the November 5 election

Oregon voters who want to cast their ballots in the Nov. 5 election must register to vote by 11:59 p.m. today.

There are already more than 3 million registered voters in Oregon, according to the secretary of state’s office. Those voters will have the opportunity to vote in the presidential election and weigh in on important federal, statewide and local races and measures. That includes contests for one of the most competitive seats in Congress, statewide races for secretary of state, treasurer and attorney general and five key statewide measures.

In Portland, voters will participate in a historic election that will select a new mayor and 12 city council members as the city ushers in a new form of city government.

You can check if you are registered to vote or update your voting address by visiting oregonvotes.gov/myvote. Enter your first name, last name and date of birth and you will see whether your registration is current and to which party you belong.

Oregonians who do not have a valid and current Oregon driver’s license, permit or identification card must complete a paper voter registration card. You can obtain paper registration cards at the US Post Office, Multnomah County library locations and the county election building at 1040 SE Morrison St.

Counties will begin sending out ballots on Wednesday, and they should arrive in voters’ mailboxes shortly thereafter.

Oregon makes it easy to vote: Fill out your ballot at home and then mail it in, without a stamp, until Election Day. Voters can also drop off ballots in person on or before 8:00 PM on November 5 at official ballot locations.
