NFL owners approve Tom Brady’s bid to become limited partner of Las Vegas Raiders

Seven-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Tom Brady has been approved by the NFL as a limited partner of the Las Vegas Raiders, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday.

Brady and his partner now own 10% of the Raiders, while Brady personally has a 5% stake.

“It’s great that Tom Brady wants to invest in the NFL,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday at the Fall League Meeting in Atlanta. “He cares a lot about this game. He believes in its future, and I think that’s just a sign of that.”

Brady also released a statement on the endorsement, expressing his gratitude for the endorsement and his enthusiasm to help the franchise.

“I am incredibly humbled and excited to have been unanimously approved as owner of the Las Vegas Raiders,” the statement began. “Throughout my NFL career, I have learned that football, at its core, is a game of teamwork, resilience and a relentless pursuit of excellence. The Raiders franchise and the city of Las Vegas embody the same values, and I am honored to be a part of that story.

“Football has been a part of my entire life growing up in the Bay Area and in so many ways my football life and journey has come full circle. I love the sport, I love my teammates, coaches and the fans in every organization I have am. Sports brings us together in a way that nothing else can. I grew up on the field and it is a blessing to know that I will be involved in the greatest competition in the world for the rest of my life.

“I want to thank Mark Davis for welcoming me into his family, and for the tireless work he has done to help build the organization that so many fans know and love today. Thank you also to Commissioner Goodell for his support and to all the NFL owners who supported my dream. I would also like to thank my partner Tom Wagner, Don Yee, Jim Gray, Alex Spiro and Larry Delson for helping me reach this incredible milestone.

“I am eager to contribute to the organization in any way I can while honoring the rich tradition of the Raiders while taking every opportunity possible to improve our offering to fans… and most importantly, WINNING football games.”

Hall of Famer Richard Seymour, a former teammate of Brady’s with the New England Patriots and a former Raiders player, also bought a small share of ownership.

Tuesday’s vote ended a long-running saga about Brady’s bid for ownership. It was first reported in May 2023 that Brady was in the process of acquiring a minority stake in the Raiders.

Brady’s attempt to purchase a share of the Raiders was delayed in part by questions surrounding the evaluation of the percentage that would be sold to him and Brady’s role as a FOX Sports broadcaster.

The NFL placed restrictions on Brady’s broadcast access in August due to his possible involvement with the Raiders.

Brady may not attend in-person or online production meetings and may not have access to team facilities, players or coaches. These restrictions do not apply to FOX employees.

He must also abide by the league’s constitution and bylaws, which prohibit public criticism of officials and other clubs, but he can broadcast Raiders games.

“On the media front, let me say that Tom has been adhering to the issues we have voluntarily raised through the committee since he began his broadcasts,” Goodell said. “That’s all been resolved. It’s been followed very clearly and everyone seems very happy. That wasn’t a major problem until probably the last six months.”

Brady, who retired from the NFL after the 2022 season, teams with play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt on FOX’s top NFL broadcasting team. He signed a 10-year contract with the network in 2022, but this is Brady’s first season of announcing games.
