    The second half, the easier half, of the UTEP football team’s schedule begins Wednesday when the Miners take on Florida International in a nationally televised game.

    FIU comes in with a 2-4 record and, of its two best games, a win against Louisiana Tech and an overtime loss to undefeated Liberty. The Miners are still looking for their first win and come in with an 0-6 record and a losing streak that has now reached nine games.

    The mystery is who UTEP will start at quarterback as Cade McConnell is questionable with a wrist injury. Skyler Locklear, the starter in the opening game, would be in line to get that job back if McConnell can’t go.

    The Miners feel good about the improvement in their run game, but need improvement on defense against an FIU team that throws the football effectively.

    Florida International at UTEP will air nationally on CBS Sports Network in Week 8 of the 2024 college football season. Dave Ryan will provide play-by-play and Brock Vereer will provide color commentary from the booth at the Sun Bowl.

    UTEP Football vs. FIU Injury Report

    UTEP linebacker Jalen Rayam is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury. Receiver Jaden Smith is out for the season due to a lower-body injury. AJ Odums is out with a “non-football related upper body injury” that is still being diagnosed. Quarterback Cade McConnell and linebacker Kory Chapman are questionable.
