Lakers’ Rookie Sees Explosion in Preseason

Longtime NBA superstar Anthony Davis scored a blistering 35 points in preseason action on Thursday night, propelling Los Angeles to a 6-point win over the Suns.

And strangely enough, he wasn’t the only Laker to achieve that goal.

Dalton Knecht, one of the freshest Lakers on the roster, scored 35 points on 10-for-18 shooting in 32 minutes off the bench. He shot a blistering 8-for-13 from three-point land, including hitting seven of his eight free throw attempts, while adding seven key rebounds, two steals, two blocks and one assist.

And despite its already flashy line, it wasn’t the final box score that was the most impressive part of the match. Near the end of the fourth quarter and into overtime, Knecht scored 20 straight points for Los Angeles in one of the most remarkable rookie performances ever, preseason or not.

He finished with 20 of the team’s final 22 points. The performance was, to put it simply, awe-inspiring.

The game could well be a springboard for Knecht to make a major contribution to the Lakers. At 23, he already has more experience as a player than most in his class. And with his frame, athleticism and shooting ability, he should be able to get minutes sooner than many expect.

Knecht and Los Angeles will make their official season debut against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday, October 22 at 9:00 PM CT.
