Bears’ all-time leader faces drunk driving and weapons charges after crash

A former NFL quarterback was charged with multiple crimes after a crash in Tennessee.

According to ESPN, Jay Cutler was charged with driving under the influence, possession of a gun while under the influence, failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision and implied consent.

Cutler, the Bears franchise leader in passing yards, passing touchdowns, attempts and completions, also played for the Broncos and Dolphins during his 12-year career.

Cutler allegedly struck another vehicle in Franklin, Tennessee, on Thursday around 5 p.m.

“During their conversation with Cutler, officers noticed a strong odor of alcohol,” according to a news release. ‘Cutler also slurred his words and had bloodshot eyes. Cutler refused field sobriety testing and was taken to a local hospital where a blood sample was obtained through a blood test.”

A police search of Cutler’s vehicle revealed that he was in possession of two firearms, including a loaded handgun, according to ESPN. He posted bond and was released.

Known for his arm strength during his career, Cutler was a 2006 first-round pick of the Broncos out of Vanderbilt.

He racked up more than 35,000 yards and 227 touchdowns during his career. He last played in 2017.
