Former NFL Quarterback Jay Cutler Arrested and Charged with DUI and Weapon Possession in Tennessee: Reports

Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested Thursday in Franklin, Tennessee and charged with driving under the influence and possession of a handgun, according to multiple reports. According to reports, he was released after posting $5,000 bail.

Cutler was also charged with failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision and breach of implied consent, according to the reports. Under Tennessee state law, all charges against the 41-year-old are felonies or civil violations.

Police responded Thursday evening to a report of Cutler rear-ending another car, prompting officers to question him. Police said Cutler smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and slurred his words.

After refusing a field sobriety test, police obtained a search warrant and took Cutler to a nearby hospital to have his blood alcohol level tested. Police found a loaded handgun and another firearm in Cutler’s car.

Cutler played twelve seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins. The Broncos selected Cutler with the No. 11 pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. The Vanderbilt product spent his first three seasons with the Broncos before playing eight years with the Bears. Cutler retired in 2017 after one season with the Dolphins.

His lone Pro Bowl season came in 2008, his final year in Denver, where he threw for a career-high 4,526 passing yards. Cutler finished that season with 25 passing touchdowns, two rushing touchdowns and 18 interceptions.
