Heavy rain and storm last weekend

Wind and rain are increasing across New Mexico. The heaviest rainfall is expected later tonight and Saturday.

Strong low pressure continues to move toward New Mexico. Today it is centered over northern Arizona. This low pressure causes heavy rainfall in New Mexico. The heaviest rainfall is expected in eastern New Mexico. Flooding is possible in burn areas. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon Burn Scar area. This watch will be in effect later today through the night of Saturday, October 18. This heavy rainfall will start tonight and last until Saturday night. It will continue to rain on Sunday, but it will not be as heavy.

The low pressure will also create windy conditions across the state. A wind advisory has been issued for central New Mexico. Wind gusts of up to 55 km/h are possible. Heavy gusts of wind are expected across the country.

A cold front will also move through New Mexico today. The front will be in northwestern New Mexico by early evening. It will have traveled across the state by Saturday evening. This front will cause a noticeable drop in temperatures on Saturday. High temperatures will continue to drop through next Monday.

Snow continues to fall today in southwestern Colorado and the northern mountains of New Mexico. Southwest Colorado has seen the most accumulation in recent days. Although Taos Ski Valley and Santa Fe Ski have been experiencing flurries in recent days. Snow is expected to continue at very high elevations this weekend.
