Dodgers vs. Mets live score updates: NY leads late in NLCS Game 5, how to watch

The Los Angeles Dodgers lead the best-of-seven National Championship Series 3-1 and can clinch a spot in the 2024 World Series with a win on Friday against the New York Mets.

Los Angeles won 10-2 in Game 4 at Citi Field on Thursday and defeated the Mets 30-9 in the series, with the three wins coming by margins of nine, eight and eight runs – including shutouts in Games 1 and 3.

Mookie Betts went 4-for-6 with a home run and four RBI in the Dodgers’ Game 4 victory and likely NL MVP Shohei Ohtani homered for the second straight game after being held without a longball in the previous six.

David Peterson (10-3, 2.90 ERA) will get the start for the Mets, who are looking to extend New York’s season. The left-hander is making his first start of the postseason, but was crucial out of the bullpen, picking up a win and a save in four appearances with a 2.08 ERA. Right-hander Jack Flaherty takes the mound for the Dodgers in the potential game-changer after a masterful performance in Game 1.

Mets changes tack and leads 12-6 to ninth place

Starling Marte’s RBI single brought home Pete Alonso in the eighth, extending the Mets’ lead to 12-6. They are three zeros away from returning the NLCS to Los Angeles.

Mets, Dodgers trade in the sixth: NY leads 11-6

Mookie Betts led off the top of the sixth with a solo home run off Ryne Stanek to cut the Dodgers’ deficit to 10-6, but the Mets responded in the bottom half of the frame with Jeff McNeil’s sacrifice fly after sending runners to second and had taken third place. with no one outside.

Andy Pages hits three-run homer: NY up 10-5

Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages hit a three-run homer in the top of the fifth inning – his second longball of the game – cutting Los Angeles’ deficit to 10-5. Mets right-hander Reed Garrett had gotten into trouble by sacking Enrique Hernandez and walking Max Muncy.

The Dodgers won’t make it easy for the Mets.

Mets added two more on fourth: NY leads 10-2

The Mets scored some crucial insurance runs in the fourth, bringing seven batters to bat against Brent Honeywell. Jesse Winker hit an RBI triple and Jeff McNeil followed with an RBI single, pushing New York’s lead to 10-2 heading into the fifth.

Andy Pages homers, Mets bases loaded: NY up 8-2

With two outs in the top of the fourth, Andy Pages crushed a solo home run to left against David Peterson and exchanged a few words with catcher Francisco Alvarez after crossing the plate.

Peterson gave up a bloop single to Shohei Ohtani, then walked Mookie Betts and Teoscar Hernandez to load the bases. Reid Garrett found himself in the unenviable spot opposite Freddie Freeman, taking out the former MVP looking to leave the bases loaded heading into the bottom of the fourth.

Mets added five in the third: New York led 8-1

Things got out of hand for the Dodgers in the bottom of the third inning after Pete Alonso and Jesse Winker walked to start the inning. Starling Marte followed with a two-run double into the left field corner to make it 5-1 with no one out.

Jack Flaherty retired the next two batters, but the Mets scored three straight runscoring hits with two outs: a Francisco Alvarez RBI single, Francisco Lindor RBI triple and Brandon Nimmo’s RBI single.

After pitching seven scoreless innings in Game 1, Flaherty turned in a dud in the Dodgers’ first chance to advance.

Dodgers score on wild pitch: Mets lead 3-1 at halftime

A walk was killing the Mets in this series and David Peterson turned on leadoffman Enrique Hernandez in the top of the second. With two outs, an Andy Pages charge to center moved Hernandez to third base and brought up Shohei Ohtani.

Peterson threw a wild pitch to score the run and then walked Ohtani, bringing Mookie Betts to the plate with runners on first and second base. The left-hander made an errant pop-fly that ended the inning for Betts, who had doubled in the first and second inning. posted four RBI in the Dodgers’ Game 4 victory.

Playing in what could be his last game with the Mets, Pete Alonso hit a three-run homer to center field off Dodgers starter Jack Flaherty – just what New York needed in the first inning after struggling to get through this series score points.

David Peterson escapes jam in the first inning

Shohei Ohtani led off Game 5 with a single and Mookie Betts followed with a double, putting runners on second and third base with no one out for Mets starter David Peterson. The southpaw then retired Teoscar Hernandez (groundout), Freddie Freeman (lineout) and Tommy Edman (strikeout) to end the threat, a stunning escape in what could have been a season-crushing inning for the Mets.
