Cameraman on Jhonkensy Noel’s teaser shot makes enemies in Cleveland with fake

The Cleveland Guardians pulled off a miracle in Game 3 of the NLCS thanks to the big bat of Jhonkensy Noel. So who doubted that they could do it again in Game 4? Not this writer, and not the entire baseball world that was fooled into thinking Noel’s shot to left in the seventh inning went, went, gone!

It went well… went into Alex Verdugo’s glove on the wall.

If you were fooled like us, it wasn’t your fault. The blame lies squarely with whoever operated the camera at Progressive Field, because who cares?

Verdugo recorded the second out of the inning before Mark Leiter Jr. Andres Jimenez struck out to end the inning. He kept the Yankees’ one-run lead in a way that the cameraman failed to protect the hearts of millions.

MLB Twitter was also very angry about it. Some commented on how well the fake-out had benefited them.

Some declared war on the TBS crew.

Some cursed their eternal souls.

The good news for the cameraman and the Guardians is that they only had to wait one inning for a tie game. In the bottom of the eighth, David Fry was the hero again with an infield single that Leiter couldn’t quite get through. Bo Naylor came in to score.

The Yankees took a commanding lead in the sixth inning when Giancarlo Stanton blasted one into the stands to score three runs. That made New York’s lead 6-2.

Once again, these Guardians proved that they are made of stronger material. They did not let themselves be discouraged by a deficit of only four points.

Cleveland won a thriller in overtime on Thursday night. They took a 3-1 lead in the eighth thanks to back-to-back home runs from Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. In the ninth, the Yankees took a 5-3 lead. That’s when Noel played hero and tied the game with a towering two-run homer. Fry hit a walk-off home run in the 10th.
