This is what happened in our simulation:

First quarter

JuJu Smith-Schuster’s early injury disrupted the rhythm of the Kansas City Chiefs offense. The team’s first drive ended in a punt, and their second drive faced similar problems. After a big play against Justin Watson, Patrick Mahomes showcased his athleticism with a 24-yard run that put the Chiefs at the edge of the end zone.

However, on third and goal, Fred Warner made a crucial interception in the end zone, forcing a turnover.

End of the first quarter: Leaders 0, 49ers 0

Second quarter

The 49ers finally recorded their first loss of the game as their offense struggled to find a rhythm in the first quarter. Brock Purdy connected with George Kittle on a crucial third-and-long play, paving the way for Purdy to find Deebo Samuel for the game’s first score.

Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes was forced to rely on his legs as his receivers struggled to create separation. However, Skyy Moore, who stepped up after Smith-Schuster’s injury, made a crucial catch that advanced the Chiefs to the 49ers’ 18-yard line.

Just two plays later, running back Kareem Hunt slid into the end zone untouched, tying the game.

It didn’t take long for the 49ers to respond; Samuel caught his second touchdown pass of the game on a stunning 76-yard play.

With 90 seconds left in the half, the Chiefs quickly moved the ball downfield. Xavier Worthy then caught a tying touchdown before halftime.

End of the second quarter: Leaders 14, 49ers 14

Third quarter

It was Kittle’s show for the 49ers from halftime, as he caught four passes on their first drive, highlighted by a two-yard touchdown.

In response, Mahomes regularly targeted Justin Watson on the Chiefs’ next drive, connecting five times for 68 yards. The drive ended with a Travis Kelce touchdown to tie the game.

End of the third quarter: Leaders 21, 49ers 21

Fourth quarter

A huge sack by George Karlaftis forced the 49ers to punt, giving the Chiefs another chance to take the lead.

As the Chiefs moved downfield, their drive stalled near the 49ers’ 35-yard line. Harrison Butker stepped up and scored a field goal, giving the Chiefs a lead by three.

With just 30 seconds left, the 49ers responded with a Jake Moody field goal, tying the game again.

End of the fourth quarter: Leaders 24, 49ers 21

Overtime

The 49ers received the ball to start overtime and methodically advanced downfield. Running back Jordan Mason played a key role, both rushing the ball and making key catches on drives.

At one point, the Niners faced a first-and-goal after Mason’s two-yard run. However, on second and goal, Karlaftis sacked Purdy. As the pressure increased, Purdy was forced to throw the ball out of the back of the end zone on third and goal, and the Niners settled for a field goal.

The Chiefs wasted no time in responding. Once they reached midfield, Mahomes made a shot into the end zone and connected with Xavier Worthy for the winning touchdown.

Final score: Chiefs 30, 49ers 27
