After another back-and-forth matchup in the 2024 American League Championship Series, the New York Yankees came out on top.

The Yankees defeated the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night by a final score of 8-6, taking a 3-1 series lead and putting themselves one win away from the World Series.

New York took an early lead, as Juan Soto launched a two-run home run in the top of the first inning.

The Yankees held a 3-2 lead through five innings before Giancarlo Stanton hit a three-run blast into left field. Stanton now has four home runs in eight postseason games this year.

As in Game 3, Cleveland fought back. The Guardians cut the deficit to 6-5 thanks to RBI doubles from José Ramírez and Josh Naylor. Then David Fry tied the game with a one-run single in the bottom of the eighth.

The Yankees jumped back on top in the next frame, with Jon Berti scoring on an error on a ground ball in the infield by Brayan Rocchio. Gleyber Torres gave New York some security with his own RBI single off Emmanuel Clase before Tommy Kahnle secured the save in the bottom of the ninth.

Fans were impressed by the Yankees’ performance and by Stanton and Soto’s home runs.
