The opponent: Seattle Sounders FC (3rd, 16-8-8, 56 points)

It’s quite the end of the 2024 season, pitting the league’s two longest-standing rivals against each other, and as a bonus, the Cascadia Cup is on the line. The Timbers are looking to secure the regional cup as well as hosting rights for the Western Conference Wild Card Game in the Audi 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs. To do this, they will have to secure an outcome behind enemy lines.

The Seattle Sounders have quietly rocketed up the standings and into the top three of the conference in the second half of 2024. When the two sides first met in May this year, Seattle was 11th in the West and the postseason light seemed dim. Fast forward five months and they are now in third place with a home game in the play-offs. Battling injuries and development all year, it was Jordan Morris (13g, 5a) and Alex Rusnak (10g, 15a) who had to carry much of the offensive load in 2024. With Raúl Ruidíaz’s health inconsistent, and Pedro de la Vega also succumbing to the injury bug, the Sounders have continued without two of their three DPs. Yeimar Gomez (5.1 clearances per 90) and Jackson Ragen (0.7 blocks per 90) lead the defensive side of things for Seattle, while Stefan Frei (28 MP, 26 GA) continues to man the posts in the back.
