Michael Kesslering scores in OT to lift Utah Hockey Club to a 2-1 win over Boston Bruins

Michael Kesserling scored 2:46 into overtime to give the Utah Hockey Club a 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins on Saturday night.

Vladislav Kolyachonok also scored for Utah to tie the game with 5:09 left in the third period, forcing overtime for the fourth time this season. Connor Ingram finished with 22 saves.

Cole Koepke scored his third goal of the season for Boston and Jeremy Swayman stopped 30 shots.

MORE about UTAH HOCKEY CLUB:

After a scoreless first period, Boston took a 1-0 lead on Koepke’s goal with 7:11 left in the second. Koepke ran onto the ice after a Utah turnover and fired a low shot past Ingram to give the Bruins the lead.

Kolyachonok tied the score with his first of the season, charging at Swayman and sending a backhander past the goalkeeper.

Takeaways

Bruins: The suffocating defense left Boston against one of the league’s most potent offenses for much of the game. Utah had an edge in shots on goal but struggled to generate clean looks amid the heavy traffic around the net.

Utah: Sloppy passing and sloppy finishing robbed Utah of the scoring surge that was a trademark late in the early season.

Key moment

Kesserling’s goal in overtime sparked an unlikely comeback after Utah hadn’t scored in nearly 55 minutes.

Key stat

Utah went to overtime in four of its first seven games and won three.

Next

Boston visits Nashville Tuesday night to conclude a three-game road swing, and Utah hosts Ottawa.
