Colorado coach Deion Sanders has words for President Obama after the victory

Colorado football coach Deion Sanders took some time out of his post-game press conference in Arizona on Saturday to address a former president of the United States.

“President Obama is everything to me,” Sanders said after his team defeated Arizona 34-7 on Saturday in Tucson. “I mean, I love him, I admire him. I respect him enormously. But I heard what he said, you know?

Barack Obama, the former president, had mentioned Sanders’ team the day before at a campaign event for Vice President Kamala Harris. He spoke to a crowd in Tucson and tried to score some political points with the locals.

“When we landed, we saw the Colorado buses at the airport,” Obama said as he booed the crowd. “And I know Colorado has some good players. But I also know you guys beat them twice in a row, so don’t bet against the Wildcats tomorrow.”

It was a fairly mild comment, but it did not go down well with Sanders, who brought it up without being asked. First, the Buffaloes showed on Saturday that they have more than two good players: two-time star Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Hunter didn’t even play in the second half against Arizona. Shedeur had a mediocre day with 250 yards passing, two touchdown passes and two interceptions. But the Buffaloes (5-2) still dominated and led 28-7 at halftime.

“President, I heard what you said, man,” Sanders said playfully. “Like come on, come on. That’s why I don’t actually go into politics. I love people. Because politicians play the political game, and he was here and had to play the political games, they have two good players. We have more than two good players. But then you’re here (in Tucson), so you have to support that.”

Sanders noted how “someone gave him great stats,” referencing his comment that Arizona had beaten Colorado twice in a row before Saturday.

“But president, come on man,” Sanders said. ‘You, my husband. I love you, I appreciate you, but come on, dawg. God bless you. I still love you.”
