A new #1 and Alabama making history (the bad kind)

Nevada Sports Net columnist Chris Murray is one of 63 voters in the AP Top 25 college football poll. View his ballot from this week here.

On the rise

* Oregon: The Ducks earned their first road victory since 1992 in a 35-0 win at Purdue and moved up to No. 1 after Texas’ fall to Georgia. The undefeated Ducks, with wins over Ohio State and Boise State, should be the unanimous No. 1 seed, but you never know when an errant first seed will end up somewhere else. Texas fell from first place to No. 5 after a 30-15 home loss to Georgia, which moved up two points to No. 3. There were minimal upsets — no ranked teams lost to unranked teams — so the only new school on the list is UNLV, which went from unranked to No. 25 on my ballot, taking Nebraska’s place.

On autumn

*Alabama: After the big win over Georgia, the Crimson Tide are 1-2 with losses to Vanderbilt and Tennessee and a two-point win over South Carolina. Throw in a terrible second half against Georgia and Alabama hasn’t looked good in fourteen quarters. Things don’t get any easier for Kalen DeBoer’s team, with games against Top 25 Missouri and LSU next. Alabama fell from No. 6 to No. 21 after this week’s loss to Tennessee, marking the school’s third two-loss regular season since 2011.
