Mike Johnson doesn’t want to hear Trump discuss Arnold Palmer’s masculinity

Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson doesn’t want to hear about Arnold Palmer’s Johnson. The Republican reacted angrily when confronted with Donald Trump’s recent comments in which he told a story about Palmer’s “incredible” penis size.

During an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union, host Jake Tapper asked for Johnson’s reaction to Trump, saying that when other golfers gushed over the links legend, “they said, ‘Oh my God, that’s unbelievable.'” Trump also described Palmer as “totally man.”

Tapper referred to an Associated Press article that began with the sentence: “Donald Trump’s campaign suggested he would begin previewing his closing arguments on Saturday evening, with Election Day just two weeks away. But the former president began his meeting with a detailed story about Arnold Palmer, at one point even praising the late, legendary golfer’s genitals.

“You’re talking about substantive issues,” Tapper told Johnson. “Is this really the final message you want voters to hear from Donald Trump’s stories about Arnold Palmer’s penis?”

The speaker tried to dodge the question by saying, “I think the headline I read yesterday about the Pennsylvania meeting was the big question. And it is the one that Kamala Harris has been unable or unwilling to answer. And that is, are you better off now than you were four years ago under the Trump administration?” (Unsurprisingly, that headline was in a Fox News article that didn’t even mention the penis comments, although a story under the outlet’s sports vertical did.)

But Tapper didn’t let Johnson stop him. “I’m sure you think a policy debate would be better than a personality debate, but if President Biden had gone on stage and talked about the size of a professional golfer’s penis, I think you’d be on this show right now and would say, You were shocked and horrified and you would suggest that this was evidence of his cognitive decline,” the host said.

Johnson then replied testily, “Jake, it seems like you really like that line. Let me tell you, Donald Trump is holding rallies across the country trying to say something.” (Yes, he definitely says that something.)

The two then got into a back-and-forth until Johnson snapped, “I’ll discuss it.” Let me answer it, okay? Don’t say it again. We don’t have to say it. I get it. There are lines in a rally. When President Trump is at a rally, he sometimes speaks for two hours straight. You doubt his stamina, his mental acuity. Joe Biden couldn’t do that for five minutes… So (Trump) is having fun at the rallies. He says things that are not obvious. But I’m telling you, I’ve been to those events. I’ve been in those arenas and people have a great time in those arenas. So you can pick a few words or lines from a two-hour event.

While some people certainly have a “great time” at a Trump rally, other attendees leave the former president’s events before he finishes speaking. As a recent rally goer said The Washington Postshe chose to leave early because of “the insults and the fact that she was an hour late.”
