Miami Dolphins at Indianapolis Colts: predictions, picks, odds

play

The Miami Dolphins entered their Week 6 bye with a 2-3 record and a serious problem at quarterback. However, despite a week of rest, their problems have not disappeared. Miami may be just a game and a half out of first place in the AFC East, but as long as Tua Tagovailoa is sidelined, the Dolphins’ explosive offense looks more like a firecracker than TNT. That said, the offense should have plenty of opportunities for explosive play against an Indianapolis Colts defense that has given up the third-most yards in the NFL.

Of course, the offense is only half the battle. Miami’s defense was one of the surprises of the first half of the season. They currently give up just 5.2 yards per play, which is ninth-best in the league. Can Joe Flacco or Anthony Richardson, whoever the Colts will select at quarterback in Sunday’s game, overcome such a stout defense?

Here are our experts’ predictions for the Week 7 showdown.

Lorenzo Reyes: Foals 22, Dolphins 16

The Dolphins are so completely unreliable when Tua Tagovailoa isn’t playing that it’s hard to root for them even when they’re coming off a bye week. The Colts haven’t exactly been consistent and Anthony Richardson hasn’t exactly had a productive season. Either way, I would wait this week to see what Indy’s status is with Jonathan Taylor (ankle) before making a decision.

Tyler Dragon: Colts 21, Dolphins 20

Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa is still on injured reserve. Colts QB Anthony Richardson (oblique) is on his way back. I expect Richardson’s return to spark Indy’s rushing attack. But Richardson has to take care of the football. He has six interceptions in four games. The Colts have the third-worst defense in the NFL, but can Miami’s offense find a rhythm without Tagovailoa? The recent tape says no.

Richard Morin: Foals 18, Dolphins 13

Joe Flacco gets the job done in Indianapolis. I like the bottom line, but I also like the Colts’ chances of getting above .500 this season.

Jordan Mendoza: Dolphins 16, Colts 13

Miami has looked lost in recent weeks, but this would be a good matchup for explosive stars like Tyreek Hill to break out and get a much-needed win to keep the season alive.
